I hope that you had a fine Thanksgiving break. I work with our team at Applied Wisdom in supporting and equipping nonprofit leaders and managers. We encourage them to reflect on their own leadership wisdom, to put that wisdom into action, and to pay it forward. During the California Forward Economic Conference in Sacramento in October, my wife Becky and I had the opportunity to have lunch with a group of young leaders who are dedicated to stewarding California and its economy. We were inspired by both their vision and their impact. They are part of a new generation guiding California’s economy forward through conscious leadership, coalition-building, and a deep understanding of how change really happens. Hearing from them gave us hope. Three weeks ago in this newsletter I suggested that you should never stop collecting great tips and quotations. During the lunch these young leaders offered some of their own leadership tips, and I’d like to share a few of them in the hope that they inspire you, as they do me. - “Authenticity brings down barriers.”– Alondra Gaytan, Economic Development Collaborative
- “Be resilient! How are you going to bounce back when faced with adversity?” – Jermaine Hampton, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation
- “Confidence and networking are key.” – Herman G. Hernandez, Los Cien: Sonoma County Latino Leaders
- “Know that everyone on your team is not the point guard and that a good team is made up of different strengths.” – Jill Sanford, Sierra Business Council
- “Stewardship is a verb… it’s an action!”– Annalisa Siregar-Wurm, California Forward It was wonderful to learn that these young leaders are taking this advice to heart, collecting tips that are meaningful to them.
Step back and reflect on your own leadership wisdom. To get you started on collecting tips and inspiring quotations, download this worksheet from my website.
I would love to see one of your tips in the comments!
