Talented, Motivated People

I always stress that a culture of respect and trust begins with a commitment to hiring excellent people, people who can own their work, both its successes and failures.

Talented, motivated people will always overcome operational challenges, language differences, distance, or time pressure. And nothing attracts more talented, motivated people like a critical mass of talented, motivated people. This is the foundation of an excellent organization.

Nonprofits and companies large and small use various sources to seek talent. We found our most successful process was for each of us to have a written list of three people to bring into the organization. When we attracted one we would add another. One person I had on my list for twenty years!

  • Do you continue to interview candidates until you identify one who could be excellent at their job?
  • How can you increase the size of the pool of great candidates for your organization?
