This has been the most stressful year for nonprofits since the Covid crisis. The current social and political environment makes burnout more of a concern than perhaps ever before. Everyone is searching for ways to cope through the crisis. With the holidays upon us, this is an opportunity for leaders and managers to stop and think about self-care, and about supporting your team into the new year. Coping depends in part on recognizing that a key element of respect and trust is encouraging healthy habits — your own, and your team’s — so that you both have the energy and stamina to enjoy long-term success. Establish policies that promote a reasonable work-life balance for employees. Particularly in the last month of the year, scheduling time for personal relationships, family life, and hobbies is essential to mental and emotional health.

Remember: success is a marathon, not a sprint. We’re in it for the long term.
