Respect & Trust is at the Heart of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

When I think about DEI — diversity, equity and inclusion — I’m reminded of one of my core beliefs, which is to build your culture around the principle of mutual trust and respect. It is the foundation of all good management.

Diversity, equity and inclusion is a broad, encompassing concept. Mutual trust and respect is specific and very clear. In my experience most organizations practice mutual trust and respect in their own particular way. How does your organization embrace these values?

Rather than thinking that diversity, equity and inclusion is going to create a whole new culture, I suggest you focus first on respect and trust and build out from there. I think this will complement and strengthen your commitment to DEI.

  • Are your DEI initiatives grounded in mutual trust and respect?
  • Does this concept provide a new perspective on diversity, equity, and inclusion within your organization?
